Career and Technical Education (CTE) of the 21st century has come a long way from the past. New York City’s high quality CTE programs prepare students to graduate ready for college and for careers in booming sectors of our economy. Students gain a strong academic foundation, industry-validated skills and credentials, as well as authentic hands-on experiences that are essential to succeeding in the workplace. Working collaboratively with key industry partners, the New York City Department of Education (DOE) has made expanding high-quality CTE a top priority through its $113 million multi-year investment. As a result, there are now 301 CTE programs across 135 schools, reaching approximately 64,000 high school students. Programs include academic and industry-specific coursework, as well as high quality work-based learning experiences.
